Catarratto is the most widely planted white grape in Sicily, covering approximately 33% of the island’s vineyards. Historically used in Marsala and once served at royal tables, it is now leading the natural wine revival in Alcamo Bianco DOC. In western Sicily, winemakers are embracing organic farming, spontaneous fermentation, and low-intervention techniques to highlight Catarratto’s bright acidity, citrus-driven freshness, almond notes, and strong sense of terroir.
